Colts Center Undergoing Rehab

Word out of Indianapolis is that Colts center Jeff Saturday undergoing a successful knee surgery, and is now undergoing rehabilitation therapy. He is a four-time Pro Bowl member and a four-time All-Pro selection.

The Colts announced Saturday expected to miss at least two preseason games while he is rehabilitates his surgically repaired knee. Although we suspect that number may actually be higher.

The 35 year old Saturday joined the football team during the 1999-2000 season. The four time pro bowl selection has been a crucial element of the Colts. As well as providing a exceptionally solid protection for Colts quarterback Peyton Manning during the last 11 seasons, during his tenure with the club he has missed only six games.

As well as his rock solid protection of Manning, he is also known for his late block on Vince Wilfork , the New England Patriots nose tackle, which allowed running back Joseph Addai to score the winning touchdown during the 2007 AFC Championship match. After the game, Manning simply coined Saturday’s fearless play as “The Block.”

Old Course Set for British Open’s 150th Anniversary

The British Open, the oldest tournament in golf is commemorating its 150th anniversary with the first round starting today. This year’s event will be held at the famous Old Course at St. Andrews which has been in existence since the 1400s.

John Daly will make another exciting start at the British Open, after his surprising win at the Old Course fifteen years ago. However, Tiger Woods comback attempt will be the most anticipated turn up of the event. Woods has won the tournament each of the last two times when it was contested at St. Andrews.  He posted his win in 2000 by eight shots against Thomas Bjorn and Ernie Els, and defeated Colin Montgomerie by five shots in 2005. Listed at +350, Woods is still a heavy favorite this week, regardless of his struggles this season.

J.H. Taylor, James Braid and Jack Nicklaus have also won the British Open twice on the Old Course. And, if Woods succeed this time as well, he will become the first player to win the tourney a third time.

Perceptibly, the Masters Champion Phil Mickelson, can outshine Woods in the world rankings for the No. 1 spot. Tipped at +1200, Mickelson’s odds are fairly close to Tiger, but the only thing that can go against him is his spotty British Open record

Camilo Villegas and Justin Rose will accompany Woods in the first two rounds. Rose is apparently the hottest golfer in the world and has posted two wins on the PGA Tour in the previous two months. Justin Rose (+2000) is another player who cannot be underestimated, seeing his past records at the Travelers with wins at the Memorial and AT&T. Moreover, Graeme McDowell (+2000), the winner of the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach has also leaped into the Top 20.

Tampa Bay Swept Red Sox

In an unexpected victory for the Rays, David Price went seven-plus innings to accumulate his 12th win, as the Tampa Bay Rays beat Boston 6-4 on Wednesday.

Price (12-4) made a super human effort, as he became the first American League pitcher to reach 12 wins. In his 7 2/3-inning effort, he took out 10 batters allowing just two runs on eight hits while walking only one.

The Sox put up a spirited fight as they gave themselves a chance for a dramatic ending. Daniel Nava opened the ninth with a triple to left-center and Mike Cameron brought him home. Darnell McDonald put together an epic 11 pitch-at-bat, smacking a double to left-center to score. Boston kept chipping away at Tampa Bay’s lead, but it was just not enough.

Elsewhere, Lance Berkman homered to give Houston the lead, as the Astros powered their way past Pittsburgh 6-3. Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer to back a strong start by A.J. Burnett, as the New York Yankees hammered Oakland, 6-2.

At LinesMaker, the Boston Red Sox have odds of 7/1 along with the Atlanta Braves. While the Tampa Bay Rays are at 9/1, sharing the odds with the St Louis Cardinals and the Texas Rangers. The Yankees are still the hot favorite of the bettors with odds of 5/2.

Spain Captures World Cup

FIFA World Cup 2010 has come to an end, and the team which is on top of the world is the 2008 Euro champions Spain. Claiming their first FIFA World Cup, Spain becomes the eighth different nation, to win the World Cup.

Spain started the battle as favorites in the betting action, while the underdogs, Holland, did their utmost but just came up short.

The referee, Howard Webb, was the person who had the most impact on the game, brandishing the yellow card left, right, and center. The match was an edgy affair with hard fouls and cynical dives; a record number of yellow cards were given, while John Heitinga was sent off in extra-time. Both teams condoned some great chances; Arjen Robben and Cesc Fabregas missed, when they were one on one with the goalie. However, Andres Iniesta netted in the 116th minute to give European champions, Spain, their first World Cup title.

The World Cup is now heading to the Americas, with Brazil hosting it in 2014. Tipped at +300, Brazil turns out to be the favorites in future odds; the home soil advantage along with their remarkable history in World Cups, will definitely help them have a leading edge over others. Their neighbors, Argentina, are the second favorites, while the 2010 Champions, Spain, are the third favorites with +600 odds.

Yankees Advise Brewers to Quit Moaning

The New York Yankees pointed out that the Brewers should stop crabbing about the differences in their payroll. This reaction came following a comment by Milwaukee Brewer’s owner Mark Attansio, in a USA Today report indicating that the Yankees infield is tossing more money than the Brewers, as Milwaukee “struggles” to sign Prince Fielder.

Taking this remark seriously, while giving an interview to a New York radio station, Randy Levine, the president of the Yankees, specified that the Yankees were playing “by all the rules.”On the contrary, he raised questions about millions of dollars that the Brewers have received through revenue sharing.

Since revenue sharing was introduced the Yankees have paid out 5 million, which is a whopping 92 percent of all revenue-sharing payments. Having the largest payroll of all, over 200 million, the defending World Series champion Yankees persists to lead the league this season as well. LinesMaker betting odds have the Yankees at 11–4 favorites to win the World Series.

The Yankees’ starting infield will be paid about 98 million, much more than 16 MLB teams entire payroll — and perhaps the best damn infield of all time, while the overall payroll of the Brewers for this season is about 81 million. The long shot Brewers have betting odds of 50-1 to win the World Series.

Davis Cup Quarterfinal Preview

The Davis Cup is all set to catch the attention of bettors this week at LinesMaker sportsbook. The cup is entering the World Group Quarterfinals stage, with eight nations – Spain, France, Argentina, Russia, Chile, Czech Republic, Croatia and Serbia- battling for a spot in the semi-finals.

In their quarterfinal tie, defending champions Spain plays France, without Rafael Nadal who due to a knee injury has opted out of the tourney. Nevertheless, Spain still continues to be among the hot favorites in the competition, having odds of +250 to defend the title. Spain boasts the enviable talents like Fernando Verdasco, David Ferrer, Feliciano Lopez and Nicolas Almagro.

France is showing significantly low efforts this week. They are still the thir favorite to win the title, tipped at +500, trailing behind Spain and Serbia. France’s bench is represented by Monfils, Michael Llodra, Julien Benneteau and Gilles Simon; minus Tsonga who begged off national duty. They will have a hard time battling Spain even though they have the home edge in this tie. Spain has 3-0 chances of sweeping the tie against France.

Elsewhere, Russia plays Argentina in their second quarterfinal tie. Russia has Nikolay Davydenko, Mikhail Youzhny, Igor Kunitsyn and Teimuraz Gabashvilli to their rescue. Listed at +550 to successfully defend their title, playing on home soil is likely to work in their favor.

Argentina is playing without their best 2009 US Open champion, Juan Martin Del Potro; giving Russia another advantage. Nalbandian, Mayer, Schwank and Zeballos, are tasked with the job of taking out Russia. Argentina is at +600 to win the title at LinesMaker. Russia has 4-1 chances of taking out Argentina in the quarterfinals.

NASCAR Betting Preview

Moving towards Chicagoland Speedway during this weekend, NASCAR entered the second half of the season. All the top drivers of The Sprint Cup Series are revving up their engines for the LifeLock.com 400.

LinesMaker has released the odds for the championship. The top favorites to run up front on Saturday are Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch and Jeff Gordon.

Claiming the third position in the point standings, Johnson is vying for his fifth Sprint Cup Championship and is hugely favored by bettors with +350 odds. He had a tough time last week at Daytona, where he finished 31st owing to an accident, breaking a streak of four straight Top-10 finishes. The No.45 driver has posted an average finishing of 8:1 at Chicagoland, but is still to visit the Victory Lane.

Having odds of +600, Hamlin also faced tough luck at the Coke Zero 400, dropping from fourth to 24th and has fallen off the pace for this tourney. The No.11 ride didn’t make it to the Top-10 in three straight races, posting an average finish of 24th. He has taken the track at Chicagoland just four times, finishing fifth last season at 19th.

Kyle on the other hand just missed finishing in the Top 10, as his No. 18 car’s wheels came off. He posted four straight finishes, with an average of 27.5 at that stretch, including 40th-place at Daytona. Busch has an average finish of 12.8 at Chicagoland, and is listed at +700 on LinesMaker. He won in 2008, however came in 33rd last season.

Sitting at +800, Gordon is in second place in the points, thanks to his great performance at Daytona last weekend, where he finished third. Having an average finish of 9.2, he will officially embark on his 600th career NASCAR race, at Chicagoland.

San Diego Establishes Petco Park Record

The San Diego Padres set the Petco Park scoring record with an 18-6 win over the New York Mets on Monday night. The credit goes to Jerry Hairston Jr. who knocked a grand slam in the second inning, along with Chase Headley who pulled a homer down along with his four hits going 4-for-5, helping San Diego win its third straight and seventh of its last nine games.

Following the homer, the Padres rallied against the Mets bullpen, getting eight hits and five walks including 10 runs off four relievers in the next two innings.  This was Hairston’s third homer of the season and second career slam highlighting a season-high with 19-hits; his first grandslam was hit on July 15, 2005, for the Chicago Cubs against Pittsburgh.

This was the New York Mets third loss in four games, they also lost 13 road games in May out of 17. For the Padres however, this was the fourth time in the season that the Padres scored double figures.

For the Mets Rod Barajas and Jose Reyes scored a two-run homer and two-run triple. Hisanori Takahashi (4-2) supposedly bore the brunt of the loss for giving six runs on eight hits and two walks in only four innings.

After this loss, the New York Mets have just 50-1 odds of winning the series at LinesMaker, while the Padres are at 30-1.

Elsewhere in MLB Monday action, Minnesota defeated Seattle 5-4; the Los Angeles Dodgers defeated Arizona 5-4; the Toronto Blue Jays defeated Tampa Bay 3-2; St. Louis defeated Cincinnati 12-4; Colorado defeated San Francisco 4-0; Oakland defeated Detroit 4-1; Los Angeles Angels defeated Kansas City 7-1 and the New York Yankees defeated Cleveland 11- 2.

The New York Yankees are still among the leading contenders in the betting action with 3-1 odds of winning, closely followed by the Boston Red Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies who are equally favored by the bettors at LinesMaker with 8-1winning odds.

F1 Rolls into Silverstone

Sebastian Vettel put himself right back in contention for the championship fight with a dominant race, where he led from the start to the end in the European Grand Prix, at Valencia. However, he must have been a relieved man as his teammate Webber walked away relatively unharmed after a spectacular crash.

Red Bull will be very strong at a changed Silverstone track this weekend, but the English fans will want to see the two McLaren drivers – Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, fight it out for a home victory in the British Grand Prix.

Ferrari, too, should not be counted out and could still have a say in this year’s championship. Things would have been different for the Scarlet team, if they had a better slice of luck in Canada and Valencia. Their blown diffuser works well, suggesting they too will be strong.

It is still very competitive at the top of the standings, as the two McLaren drivers are one and two with Hamilton on 127 points and Button on 121. However, the Red Bull driver is not too far away with Vettel on 115 points.

LinesMaker have the Red Bull driver Vettel, as the favorite with odds of +200, while Hamilton is not too far behind with odds of +275, trailed by his teammate Mark Webber with +400.
