NEW YORK — The first live stream of the Super Bowl drew 2.1 million unique viewers, NBC said Thursday. That’s a small fraction of the record 111.3 million viewers that watched NBC’s broadcast of the big game. But it was still enough to make it the most-watched single-game sports event online, according to the network. Kevin Monaghan, managing director of digital media for NBC Sports Group, said the live stream “exceeded our expectations in every way.” The New York Giants 21-17 win over the New England Patriots was streamed on NBCSports.com and NFL.com. The Internet webcast included optional camera views, [...]

The Pittsburgh Steelers named former Kansas City Chiefs coach Todd Haley their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora had reported Monday that the Steelers had offered Haley the job. “I am excited about the opportunity to come back home and work for a tremendous organization,” Haley said. “It is an honor to work with the Rooney family and Coach (Mike) Tomlin and continue the success that has become synonymous with the Steelers.” Haley has deep Pittsburgh roots and is the son of Dick Haley, formerly the director of player personnel for the Steelers from 1971-1990. NEW YORK — For anyone else, the day Eli Manning had Monday would have been exhausting. But the Giants quarterback wasn’t complaining. The day after beating the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl with a game-winning, 88-yard touchdown drive in the game’s final two minutes, Manning flew to Disney World in Orlando, Fla., for the traditional Super Bowl MVP parade, and then back to New York for a taping of Monday’s “”Late Show with David Letterman.” Manning told Letterman this Super Bowl championship — a 21-17 victory over the Patriots for Manning’s second title in five years — was [...]

Peyton Manning expects to meet with Jim Irsay this week Posted by Josh Alper on February 6, 2012, 4:49 PM EST Eli Manning owned the stage on Sunday night, but it won’t be long before the attention turns back to his older brother. Peyton Manning’s status with the Colts figures to be the biggest topic in the NFL once the Super Bowl recedes into the rearview mirror and we’re starting to get an idea of when we might get an answer on that front. Manning went 30-for-40 passing for 296 yards with one touchdown pass and zero interceptions. He opened the game by becoming the first quarterback to complete his first nine attempts in a Super Bowl. He finished his work by directing the nine-play, [...]

Herzlich inactive for Super Bowl Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 5, 2012, 4:49 PM EST One of this week’s best stories Giants rookie linebacker Mark Herzlich will be inactive for his first Super Bowl. Herzlich, who overcame cancer to make the Giants as an undrafted free agent, battled an ankle injury from November until the NFC title game. He was active for that game, but will not play Sunday. Also out for New York: RB Da’Rel Scott, WR Ramses Barden, offensive lineman Jim Cordle, tackle James Brewer, defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy, and defensive end Justin Trattou. Accustomed to being questioned by the media? Check. Knows how to handle himself in front of a crowd? Check. Has the ability to galvanize (and divide) the American people? Check. Is on the front lines of one of the country’s hot-button political issues? Check. Yup, Tim Tebow definitely could have a career in politics once his playing days are over. The Broncos’ quarterback didn’t rule it out, either, when the subject was broached in an interview on the Golf Channel’s “Feherty Live.” “It could be something in my future,” Tebow said. “It’s something I’ll have to think about and if [...]
