Jerez Day One – Raikkonen Leads the Way for Lotus

07 February 2012

He may have been away from the sport for the last two seasons but that didn’t stop 2007 world champion Kimi Raikkonen from topping the timesheets, as this year’s opening test got underway in Jerez on Tuesday. Raikkonen clocked a best time of 1m 19.670s at the Spanish circuit in the new Lotus E20. Paul di Resta was second in Force India’s 2012 car, the VJM05, ahead of Nico Rosberg, who was third in the 2011-spec Mercedes. Playoff Atmosphere Surrounds Panthers’ Visit to Caps

07 February 2012

WASHINGTON — After his team’s practice Monday, Washington Capitals coach Dale Hunter said Tuesday’s night game against the Florida Panthers was going to be “a playoff game.” After his team’s morning skate Tuesday, Hunter made the same statement. It may have seemed incredibly unlikely six months ago, but the Panthers and Capitals will battle at Verizon Center in early February and first place in the Southeast Division will be on the line. “I’ve got a veteran lineup. I’ve got guys that can count and read the paper,” Florida coach Kevin Dineen said. “They know what the deal is. It’s very [...]

UK Regions Fight Each Other, France to Host Athletes

07 February 2012

LONDON, Feb 1 – Some of Britain’s poorest regions are battling each other and neighboring France to boost their local economies by hosting Olympic athletes at training camps before this year’s Games. Britain has budgeted to spend 9.3 billion pounds ($ 14.68 billion) on staging the Olympic and Paralympic Games, mostly on facilities in London, and the capital is expected to hog most of the benefits. But regional authorities dealing with government funding cuts and high unemployment rates want a slice of the cake. “Clearly it’s difficult times that the country is going through in terms of austerity but the [...]

Madonna Is Gonna Play Yankee Stadium in September

07 February 2012

In case you didn’t get enough of her at the Super Bowl, never fear, you can see Madonna at another sporting venue: Yankee Stadium on September 6th. The Yankees will be in the middle of an 10-game road trip then, so it won’t interfere. And I hear that Mystique and Aura will stay behind to be backup dancers. But for all of the crap Madonna got leading up to the Super Bowl – and for as bizarre and off-putting her public persona has become – I ain’t gonna hate. We all have guilty pleasures in life. As a guy who [...]

Caps Relish Challenge of Fighting for Division Title

07 February 2012

ARLINGTON, VA. — The Florida Panthers came to Verizon Center on April 5, 2008, and ended up with a first-hand account of the beginning of a Southeast Division dynasty. Washington won that night, 3-1, and it was the final step in frenetic dash to a division title. The atmosphere in the building was electric and the ovation as the final seconds counted down reached decibel levels normally reserved for playoff games in most NHL arenas. The Capitals will welcome the Panthers to Washington on Tuesday night, and they will be there trying to take another step toward ending that same [...]
